You can make calls over both Wi-fi and 3G and these calls will not count against your mobile phone minutes.
The application behaves in the same way as other such applications such as Viber, Maaii, and netTalk. It scans your contacts list and if any of your contacts is already on Vonage you can call them using Vonage app directly, even internationally. If not you can still call them through the application but the calls are only free to people in USA, Canada, and Peurto Rico.
