CalltoPBX doubles rates for unlimited calling plan - Simplecall

CalltoPBX $20 unlimited calls plan
CalltoPBX was one of our featured post for a very long time. They offered surprisingly cheap prices for unlimited international pc to phone calls for $10 per month. This plan was called Simplecall, it was a great success which can be seen by the number of comments (233 comments as we write) that we received on that post. The Calltopbx team was also very active replying to our comments, and concerns of our readers. However, the scenario has changed a bit now. Today, we are going to assess CalltoPBX again based on their new plans and changes to the classic Simplecall Plan in order to find out if CalltoPBX played a Bait and Switch game on its customers.

Simplecall plan for unlimited pc to phone calls to over 80 countries

Simplecall is the plan that offers you unlimited phone calls to over 80 countries for just $20 per month. It used to be $10 but they raised the prices to $15 and then in less than a week to $20. This was the biggest mistake they made. They disappointed their customers without giving them a notice that they were going to raise their rates. Some of our readers have prepaid credit in their accounts that they now want back. Nevertheless, people would still consider them if they raised it to $15 of course, with a prior notice.

How good is calltoPBX

If you read our older post about CalltoPBX, you will know that we always promoted them because of the cheap prices. We did not forget to mention that for $10 per month, you can not expect highest quality. However, even for $20 CalltoPBX would be a good service if they had improved their call quality. On the contrary people who alrady have an active plan are facing issues in making calls and these issues are not addressed by the calltopbx team. We ourselves have tried to contact them twice but to our dismay they did not reply to any of our queries. One reason for this could be that the team is too busy with the recent changes and it takes them longer than usual to get back to the external queries. Therefore, we are still hoping that they will get back to us at the earliest possible time. Please do not forget that providing unlimited calling to 80 countries at $10 per month is no joke. We wonder how did they keep their lights on for so long.

What are the alternatives now?

We want you to answer the poll in the column on your right. We are doing this poll so that we can know more about your usage. That way we can talk to some of the Voip service providers to come up with a tailor made plan exclusive for our readers. For the current and immediate alternatives you can look for Pingo's one buck offer which will last you a few days and in the meantime we will have the poll results with us to get a Voip service provider come up with a plan for our readers. Another great offers are Zenofon's $6 free credit, Rebtel's 50% bonus talktime offer, and Tata-Talk's $5.99 per month service.

Please answer the poll and tell us about your minute usage.

  1. not only the rates have been doubled.. if you have closer look they have shortened the list of countries .
Earlier the liost was exactly that of vonage , but now they have doubles rates and cut short the list too.. so no more 80 countries

  2. I got this.

    How to disable.

At 10/10/2010 the system is set to charge you for the CalltoPBX services.
The system will issue a charge request to your prepaid account for an amount of: $20.00.
This charge will allow us to continue providing SimpleCall services for you.

    Best regards,
    CallToPBX team

  3. Dear Anony,
You can contact the calltopbx team about your issue. Our gut feeling is that they will update you before charging your credit card. But to be on the safer side you should ask them no to charge your card automatically. Even after your email they charge you, you can dispute the charge with your bank.

  6. Hi
Thanks for the update. I got frustrated and had to spent significant time to these issues apart from my work. Thats why the irritation. Anyhow, i got signed in to Pingo, which was a good deal for interim usage. The quality of service is pretty good. Thanks to Free Calls Hub. I am also looking for something equivalent to Calltopbx. I will let you know when i find something. If i am not getting my service back with Calltopbx within another 5 days or so, then i will switchover to another provider.
Please update on when u guys get something good.

  8. Hi
I am not sure whether there are any other separate blog for the recent Calltopbx happenings. But the news is "Calltopbx Triples Rates for Simplecall". Just i found that. I am not sure what is their motto. I am also definite that they will not respond to the old customers. Its very unfortunate that a nice VOIP provider loosing its base and strength.
So, I am looking for something equivalent to Calltopbx. I will let you know when i find something. Please update on when u guys get something good.

  9. Third rate change and now 30$ a month , initially looked like they were going to take on vonage but another company coming up in big way and soon showing its true colors.. though the company came from much strong background , but may be this did not help them have strong agreements directly with telcos leading to such impractical rate hike.
Anyhow now i am back with pingo for calling india

  10. I disputed my charge a got $20 credit from chase. O use spending money on this svc. Recently it's observed that calls are no going thru. U get the mash "call ended. Service unavailable"

  11. I also have the same problem service unavailable when i am intended to make call to India since last 5 days I am not able to make call through calltopbx

  12. $30 now that is ridiculous! There are other VOIP providers that are much cheaper, even ones that charge USA taxes and 911 fees (e.g. vonage).

So we can now bet how far the price will go? I predict $50 by Christmas LOL

I am just SOOO HAPPY I didn't port my DID to them.

  14. Hi
    Alternative to Calltopbx:
As i mentioned in my previous comments, I think i can say comfortably that i found a good VOIP provider something equivalent to Calltopbx. Though they do not have monthly plan like Calltopbx with unlimited calls, the pay as u go rates are very low, like less than a cent per minute. It is "Fastvoip". They now have their promotional code extended till end of 2010. So it is pretty cheaper. For every $10, you can speak up to 1000 or more minutes, depending on the usage. The call quality and customer service is pretty good. I am not sure whether they will keep it up for long run. But i like it and would recommend.
Please update on when u guys get something good.
    Thanik

  15. everyone should Dispute the charges, so it would be a lesson for companies who come up and suddenly vanish , feel pity for people who would have recently signed up and lost the money
