Nettalk is similar to MagicJack but it doesn't need you to have a PC to make Unlimited Phone calls to USA and Canada over your internet service. In other words it runs off an ethernet cable that connects to the dongle which has a second port for your traditional landline. If you want you can also use your USB port to use NetTalk. We are going to compare NetTalk with some other services such as MagicJack, Vonage and OOMA to see what should you buy and why.
Cost per year for NetTalkNetTalk Duo is sold for $70 that includes first year of service. After that you pay $30 per year. However, for our readers you can buy it at a discount of 25%. You need to use the Coupon NTLK25OFF. This will bring your price down to $52.5. You need to pay shipping that will take your final price to $60. This includes one year of service, that is you are paying $30 for the device.
You can now make unlimited calls to US and Canada. International Calls between NetTalk users are free too. To call International Phones you need to buy credits but the prices are not the best.
NetTalk Vs MagicJack
Both NetTalk and MagicJack are easy to use. With MagicJack you attach the device to your USB port and then connect your landline phone adapter to your MagicJack device. With NetTalk you connect it to either USB or directly to the ethernet cable bypassing the PC and then connect your traditional phone adpater to your NetTalk device. With MAgicJack you pay $40 upfront and then $20 per year. Here you pay $60 upfront and $30 per year. With NetTalk you also get a number of features (some of which are there with magicJack too) such as:
- Free U.S. Phone Number
- Call Waiting, 3 Way Calling,
- and Caller ID
- Voicemail to Email
- 411 Directory Assistance
- Enhanced 911 Service
- Priority Call Forwarding
- Customer Portal
- Technical Support with
- our TALK Experts
- Fax Friendly/Compatible*
- Perfect for Home Office Use
More information is available at NetTalk home page.
NetTalk Vs Ooma
Ooma is also one of the widely used VoIP calling service. There is no yearly fee but there is a whopping one time equipment setup fee. If the company goes under in a few months you are at your own with a device that you would not be able to use anymore. Same is the case with NetTalk but then you stop paying them. Additionally the features supported by NetTalk are not available with Ooma, so based on what you prefer and how do you see the future of these companies you might want to make a decision. We personally prefer Ooma as it is going strong since very long and its users are happy.
NetTalk Vs Vonage
Vonage has advertised itself as the best when it comes to call quality and that is why they are making so much money. Moreover, Vonage has international calling plans for 60+ countries which is not the case with NetTalk. However, Vonage costs you $12-$15 per month($35 for world plan) for unlimited USA and Canada calling, while NetTalk is $30 per year. We recommend NetTalk over Vonage for the reason of economy.
