Ringplus offers extra minutes to be purchased: India@less than a cent

Ringplus.net is one of the most successful ad based provider providing free calls to India and many other countries. We posted about Ringplus here, on July 10th and since then it has been one of the most viewed post on our blog. If you are unaware of Ringplus, they started a service where you ca make free calls to almost any destination including countries which are normally expensive to make calls to such as India and Bangladesh. The catch is that when it rings at the other end you do not hear the ringtone but instead you hear an ad. Pretty neat and makes sense, rite?

Since their costs are paid by their advertisers, every call lasts only a few minutes, nevertheless, you can make unlimited number of calls. This has always been a nightmare to people who usually make long calls, as many times their systems are busy to make a call again. Therefore, they have launched a new offer where you could buy additional talk time and keep talking beyond your free minutes limit.

For India, you get initial almost 6 minutes free and then your call is automatically charged at 2cents/minute (some destinations are 3cents too) i.e. if you buy talk time worth $10 then you get 500 extra minutes, plus if your call on average lasts 10 minutes than your net cost comes around 1000/1250 = 0.8 cents/minute. This is the best till now.

They have not released any information about whether your calls get any priority over free customers or not but I believe they do not. In that case, as you might have experienced connecting on a free line of Ringplus is a nightmare, you need to try a few times before you get connected. If you are ok with that it is the service for you.
