In our current audience poll it became clear that most of our readers are looking for cheap international calling. There is nothing cheaper than free international calling but free is not always an option. Therefore, we are going to tell you briefly about what you can do to save money on international calling. These tricks will come handy for all the offers. We will start with a problem and then provide the solution before moving on to various options.
I don't have a US phone number required for most offers
This is one of the most common complaint we hear from our readers. They either are living outside of USA and have no US phone number or they are in USA but their numbers can not be used for some reason - for instance the provider offer is good for new customers and the existing number is already in use.
For these cases what you can do is register with an online phone number provider. They will give you a free USA number. One such provider is Google Voice and then there are others such as WhistlePhone. Some voip service providers don't let you use these numbers but most of them don't mind it. So you should be fine with it. We have seen that people sometimes register more than one number to get an offer twice or thrice. We leave that to you, as it is a decision you have to make between ethics and savings.

I want incoming US-number calls forwarded to my number in India. No Vonage, I know it can do it.
ReplyDeleteBut I am using ObiHai/GV. I just need cheaper solution to do it. Thanks.
Dear Anony,
ReplyDeleteIf you want to continue using ObiHai/GV combo we would suggest you to use Google Voice's call forwarding functionality. It costs around 2 cent/minute. Hope that helps. If you could tell us how many minutes you use we can suggest something better than that.

Team - Free Calls Hub
I want it forwarded to my mobile number in India only when I am unable to pick the ObiHai/GV US-number. Each call could vary from 2 min to 45 min. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteDear Reader,
ReplyDeleteWhat you can do is you can forward all incoming calls to your Indian number as well. That way Google Voice will ring both phones and you can choose which one to pick. Does that make sense?

Team - Free Calls Hub
I tired doing it and got this message -
ReplyDelete-------------
It's not currently possible to select an international Google number or to forward your calls to an international number.
-------------
Let me know if I should do something else to get the international forwarding.
Any other option? Thanks.
Dear Reader,
ReplyDeleteYes, you are right. Google has stopped forwarding your calls to International numbers. What can be done here is that you register with Localphone and get yourself a local USA number for your international number. You will be able to forward your GV calls to that USA number which in turn will ring your Indian number. Make sure you register your GV number with Localphone.

Thanks Team-FCH. It appears that LocalPhone charges you even for ringing the phone, even if you don't pick the call.
ReplyDeleteSo, even if you can access your voip (free of charge), you still have to pay for additional minute for getting the ring on your forwarded number.
Any way to avoid this charge? Thanks.
Dear Reader,
ReplyDeleteWe are not sure about that. Can you explain a little more? We can talk to Localphone team and get this sorted.

Team - Free Calls Hub
Apparently, from Localphone I forwarded the call to my India number. I disconnected the call from my India number after 2 rings but when I checked my credit balance in Localphone, it showed me being charged for the call. I tried it twice with the same result, and the call duration it showed was approximately what it took to forward the call to my India number.
ReplyDeleteIt would be really helpful if you guys could get this sorted out. Thanks.
Dear Reader,
ReplyDeleteWe will talk to Localphone and see what can be done. This does not seem right. Can you email us your account details at question[at]freecallshub[dot]com

Thanks Team-FCH. I tried it few more times and not able to reproduce it. I am not charged for phone ringing.
ReplyDeleteFor now, I take it as bad on my part (may be I picked-up the phone!). If I encounter it again, then would report here.
Overall, Localphone seems to work pretty nicely. No other issue.
Thanks.
Dear Reader,
ReplyDeleteWe are glad you were able to figure it out by yoruself. By the way, there is another promotion going on by Rebtel see Rebtel's Valentine offer, where they are giving $30 for $10. We highly recommend you to use that too. Hope that helps.
