Voip service provider TataTalk offers unlimited phone calls to India for $5.99 per month

Free Calls to India $5.99 per monthUpdate: Tatatalk is no longer in operation. We have not seen any whitehat voip service provider to provide such cheap service and yet be able to keep the lights on.
Call2PBX has been on our charts for a very long time. We have almost 200 comments on that post, that is a proof of how popular that post has been. If you are new here, let us get you up to speed with Call2PBX. They offer unlimited calls to India for $10 per month. The up time of their system is not 100% but it is still pretty decent. We owe them a lot of our loyal readers. However, today we found another VOIP Service provider that is as competitive as Call2PBX or may be better than them. We are talking about the Voip service provider tatatalk. We recommend that you read the full post about them before investing your hard earned money for their cheap calls to India and other solutions.

Tata Talk is not related to Tata

Since our last post was about Tata enterprise's true roots calling solution, you might confuse this plan with Tata too. However, tatatalk has nothing to do with "The" Tata enterprise. Tatal Talk and Trueroots are different voip service providers.
When we looked at their website it appears that they might be a fake group trying to get your credit card details or other information. However, there are few things that made us think that they are legit.
  • The first thing is the certificate by GoDaddy. It doesn't say much other than that your payment details are safe with them, but which scammer would go at that length?
  • The domain has been there for a year. We are not sure when did the site come into existence but they have the domain registered till next year and they recently (October 2010) updated it.
  • Although, $5.99 per month is a price that no one can offer, they have a catch which makes us believe that they can actually afford it. Read the details of this offer below.

India Unlimited calls $5.99 per month plan

They are offering Unlimited phone calls to India for just $5.99 per month. However, you need to buy the service for a whole year by paying $5.99 X 12 = $71.88 and a monthly maintenance fee of $1 making it a total of $83.88 a year. There is no contract and you have the option to discontinue the service at any time, in which case you will be charged for the minutes you used based on 5 cents a minute. We are looking more into their offerings and hopefully very soon we will have some detailed feedback on their services. If you have ever used their services please let us know your experience with them. You can visit them at their website to see other plans that they offer for various destinations. You can, alternatively, try IndiaLd's 25 cents for unlimited calling to India offer.

Their Response to our enquiry

Dear Freecallshub.com Team-
Thank you for your email inquiring about our company and products. We are truly grateful for giving your honest assessment about the site. There are several other blogs own by other phone companies are spreading false rumors. Here is our story:

1. The website: We kept our site design the way it is now is due to simplicity. A customer can simply select the plan and process through the paypal checkout. We dont keep any creditcard information at our site as all the processes are done through Paypal. Our main goal is to provide great calling experience with most economically viable plan. That what we do here. Our switch are located at very secured location. What you have mentioned is very accurate that the site is Godaddy certified.
2. Credit Card details: As we dont process credit card information (paypal does that), so there is no need for us to store the creditcard information. There is no other information stored at our site except for customers email ID and Phone number & address. We dont sell any information to 3rd party.
3. Tatatalk.com: We have clearly indicated that the tatatalk.com is not related to TATA of India. There were no intention of confusing customers with other company. However, we do use TataVSNL route to process calls to India.
4. Legality: Tatatalk.com is a legally registered and incorporated in the State of New York.
5. Domain: We are not sure why the domain is showing registered as of last year, but we have this domain registered since 2005.
6. 5.99/mo: You made a great point in your posting as why 5.99 is possible. We cannot reveal our secret of the cheap rate but we can assure you, we are not going anywhere nor a customer will be limited to xxx amount of calls. Good news is that, we are in the process of some deals where hopefully we will be able to offer free calls to India in 2012 without any commitment or buy. Again we cannot divulge our secrets.
7. Our team and Company: Are we a very big company? Ofcourse not. Are we a new comer? Ofcourse not! One of our investors used to be the president of Oblio Telecom, the exclusive calling card distributors from AT&T and the largest prepaid calling card distributor in the USA. Other investor was the President of zeephonecards.com which were sold to Obilio in 2005. One of our other partners were the brain behind Desi Plus phone cards a switch specialist.
From this you can say that we are a very knowledgeable team who know what we do!

I have asked our technical team to generate some complimentary pins for you to test.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at my cell number xxx.xxx.xxxx ( please do not reveal my phone number in your blog!)

Best Regards,
Arshad

  2. Hi,

Tata Talk has shared some pins with us that we distributed to some of our readers. We haven't heard back from them but hopefully they will let us know after they have used it. We are also reviewing another offer from them. So keep checking for more updates.

  5. I registered on tataltalk.com and after some days i got a complementary pin. I made the calls to India using that pin. I liked the call quality than calltopbx. Have anybody subscribed to their annual plan? I'm planning to go for that.

  7. I recently dropped vonage and was thinking of using this service. However, it seems that they have increased monthly rate to $12.99 or $7.99 if paid for annual.

  8. Dear Garima,
Yes they have increased their prices. Also, we have heard some complaints from users that during rush hour it is very difficult to get connected. We would suggest some other cheap options such as current localphone promotions or Zenofon or if you haven't already tried, try Pingo. Click on Featured Offers menu at the top and register with Pingo. You will get $5 talk time for $1 and if you have a smartphone you can get $10.

I did take this service. I was able to make a call only one minute and never connected after that. call them couple of times via phone or online. According to them problem will be solved in next 8-16 hours but after 48 hours problem is still the same. I AM VERY DISAPPOINT THEIR SERVICES.
