Make free phone calls and send free texts to USA and Canada right from your Gmail Inbox - Thanks to Google Voice

Google has leveraged maximum out of its Gmail application by using it as a medium to plug in various services such as Buzz, Chat and now even FREE Pc to Phone Calls to anywhere in USA and Canada. The service was unveiled today that is on Wednesday, August 25th 2010. Now users of a computer equipped with microphone can make Free phone calls. Moreover, it can also be used to receive phone calls. 

What is Google's new Free Pc to Phone Calling service 

Most of the users of Gmail in USA and Canada saw a new contact called "Call Phone" in their chat list. On Clicking on this option you see the dialer pad that can be used to make Free phone calls to USA and Canada as well as cheaper international calls. 

If you already have a Google Voice account you can also use this service to receive phone calls on your PC too. Needless to say this service is a way to promote Google Voice to more users. Last year it was reported that google assigned almost 1.4M phone numbers through google voice. 

What more to expect? 

If this was not enough, Google is planning to put Red Boxes in universities and Airports within US, so that people can make Free Phone Calls within USA and Canada. Considering the huge number of foreign nationals Google is supposed to make a lot of money from people using this free service to make international calls. 

Google's prices for international calls are little on the higher side though. Currently this service is only available to people who have Gmail accounts but Google is looking to expand this service by allowing an enormous number of businesses and government agencies to let use this service even with services such as Google docs.
