Free phone calls using Android G1, wifi, Google Voice and Gizmo5

When we posted about making free calls to India and worldwide using Google Voice, we received positive response from our readers. We have been experimenting with GV (Google Voice) since then. Today we bring you another hack to get free calls within USA and Canada. All you need is a Google G1 Phone, wifi connection, GV account, the unofficial GV application, and finally a Gizmo5 account. That is it and you are all set to make free calls.

Steps:
Go to your GV account and open settings page. Select add new phone and choose Gizmo under phone type. Type your 747 sip number as the phone number. Google will call you to verify this number so keep an eye on your Gizmo account and stay logged in until you receive this call. You are half done on your journey to free internet calls.

Once you are done with verification open sipdroid and enter these settings:
server: proxy01.sipphone.com
port: 5060
protocol: UDP (Unreliable protocol but recommended as net is pretty fast these days).

Now open your GV application and enter your account information, main thing is that you select your call method as call back. As we set your GV number as the default calling number GV will call you on your Gizmo account. Gizmo gives you free incoming calls so there isn't that 3 minutes limitation which baffled us earlier. That is it, you can have as many free incoming and outgoing calls as you want from now onwards.

This way you can save money on your calling plan. You can in fact distribute your GV number as your primary number and thus receive all calls on your Gizmo app. I am going to get a prepaid account myself as I am almost always have wifi connection around me. So a $10 prepaid card will take care of everything for me for a month. That is a saving of $90 per month. I hope you will like this hack to make free calls.

Let us know how do you like this offer. Thank you.
